Small News Update: In March 2026, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Cirrhosis. Without a liver transplant, this condition is terminal. Our family is now facing one of the most difficult battles of our lives.
I have already overcome so much. In 2022, I suffered a stroke that left me legally blind. Because of this, I now live on Medicare and receive only $1,150 per month in disability benefits. Even with insurance, we are learning from transplant support groups that the costs surrounding a transplant can be overwhelming. There are many expenses that insurance does not cover, including lifelong immunosuppressants, follow-up care, travel, specialist visits, and other indirect costs. These expenses can easily add up to thousands of dollars each year, even with coverage.
